Support the Make American Flags in America Act

Protect American jobs, ensure transparency, and defend the U.S. flag.

Tell Congress to protect American flag manufacturing and close the loopholes that allow deceptive imports

Imported flags—many deceptively labeled or marketed as "American"—are flooding online marketplaces, undercutting American businesses, and misleading consumers. More than 100,000 unlabeled U.S. flags, valued at $1.5 million, are made in China and sold every month on Amazon. Some of these foreign-made flags are even displayed in government buildings and on military bases.

The Make American Flags in America Act (H.R. 1421¹ in the House; S. 900² in the Senate) closes loopholes and strengthens protections for American flag manufacturing by:

  • Requiring the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to study country-of-origin labeling for U.S. flags and report on their findings; the first step towards transparency for consumers.

  • Ensuring all American flags purchased with taxpayer dollars or displayed on federal buildings are 100% U.S.-made, regardless of purchase size.

  • Protecting American jobs and domestic manufacturers from unfair foreign competition.

¹ Congressman Nick Langworthy (R-NY) introduced H.R. 1421 on February 18, 2025 with a bipartisan group of co-sponsors
² Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) introduced the Senate version, S. 900, on March 6, 2025

This bipartisan legislation is supported by key industry organizations, including:

Why this matters

“This is a no-brainer: American flags should be made in America. Our flag is a symbol of democracy, power, and glory. The best way to honor these principles is to make sure our nation’s economy and American manufacturers benefit from it.”

— Rep. Nick Langworthy (R-NY)

“The American flag represents so much—our nation’s history, and our future to come. It’s right that our flags be manufactured here in America.”

— Rep. Greg Landsman (D-OH)

“The U.S. flag industry is a key part of the broader American textile industry, supporting thousands of companies and 500,000 U.S. jobs. Ensuring American flags purchased by the U.S. government are fully sourced domestically is critical to protecting American jobs.”

— Kim Glas, President & CEO, National Council of Textile Organizations (NCTO)

“There is bipartisan agreement that American flags should be produced in America using American materials, but loopholes still allow Chinese manufacturers to sell flags. This bill would close those loopholes.”

— Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX)
