NIFDA Advocacy Update: Fall Kickoff

With busy season behind us, the Advocacy Committee is picking back up its regular schedule of bill tracking, member outreach, and legislative monitoring across the states along with beginning preparations for annual convention.

State Flag Legislation Map

The Advocacy group has been building an interactive map that tracks flag-related legislation in all 50 states - existing laws, active bills, and where each stands. The team is in the middle of a manual quality-check pass to verify every link and catch anything our initial research missed. We're aiming to have it live and ready to share as a part of the August newsletter.

South Carolina Signs "Made in America" Flag Law

On July 15, NIFDA President David McGehee attended a ceremonial signing of South Carolina's H.3514, which now requires that any U.S. or South Carolina flag purchased with public funds - and flown over government buildings, schools, or other state facilities - be 100% made in America. The bill passed both chambers unanimously and was signed into law by Governor Henry McMaster. It's a strong example of the kind of legislative wins NIFDA's advocacy work supports industry-wide, and we hope that armed with our new state flag legislation map, other NIFDA members will take up the fight in their state.
